FAQs
How do I get flowers?
In our first stage of development, market bouquets featuring Dahlias can be picked up at our roadside stand right here at the farm located at 1280 River Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312. Watch for announcements regarding hours and opening day!
Do you use pesticides?
We are committed to using natural, safe methods on our farm. First, we have a creek running through the property and our water table is very high, so we need to be careful. Second, we handle these plants (and eat from our farm), which is yet another reason we need to be careful. Also, the crows and bees would not approve of chemical shenanigans. Sometimes the grasshoppers and beetles are challenging around here and we will mix up some stinky herbs to spray around the flowers.
Do you just grow flowers?
Well, we are a motley group here and love trying new things. So, we grow lots of things - but we always like to grow flowers. Beth is known for being a bit interested in peppers (by a “bit” we mean obsessed). We especially love historic and culturally significant seeds. Also- we have fabulous neighborly, beekeepers that had such great success in their first year last year that we expect to have even more hives on the property soon - and we hope to make honey products available this year. This year we are experimenting with extracting pigments from our plants and we plan to offer natural art supplies and craft kits (and maybe even a few art workshops?!) soon. We will keep posting as products become available this year.
Do you sell crows?
No.
Why is your farm called Motley Crow then?
A standing joke around here is that one thing we can count on growing is a bumper crop of crows. Our crows are very happy here. Beth and Lynn are also children of the decades when hair metal bands were cool, so one thing lead to another. Last, we feel very connected to the wildlife that lives here, and we love folklore- Crow is a hero! (One of Beth’s favorite folktales is Rainbow Crow.)
